Miles K. Karson, Jr., Partner, was born February 24, 1945, in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. He
received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics with honors from California State University of
Pennsylvania. Mr. Karson served as a Lieutenant on active military duty in the United States
Army from 1967 to 1970. His service included a 1969 tour of duty in Vietnam as a military advisor
to Vietnamese infantry units. He was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service, Bronze
Star for Valor, and Purple Heart. After his military service he received a Juris Doctorate
degree from Ohio Northern University School of Law.
Upon graduation, he taught at Steubenville Community College and moved to Greenville in 1975 when he became a founding member of the Greenville law firm of Orr and Karson where he practiced for ten yars. He also served as an Assistant District Attorney in Mercer County from March 1976 to October 1985 during which time he grained significant trial experience as lead prosecutor in over 100 jury trials. Mr. Karson is licensed to practice before the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania as well as all other courts in the Commonwealth, U. S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania and United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. He maintains professional memberships in the Mercer County Bar Association serving as chairman of the By-Laws Committee and as a member of the Bench Bar Committee as well as the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the Pennsylvania Defense Institute. He is licensed to practice in both Pennsylvania and Ohio. His community service includes serving as a member and corporate secretary of the UPMC Horizon Hospitall Board of Trustees, and deacon and ruling elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Greenville. Past community service includes member and chairman of the UMPC Horizon Hospital Authority, and board member of the Greenville Area Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Karson's early practice emphasized real estate, estates and criminal prosecution. His current practice emphasizes real estate, estates, and litigation from both plaintiff and defendant prospective incluing personal injury, wrongful death and insurance coverage and claims. Mr. Karson has significant experience in civil jury trials, uninsured and underinsured arbitration, mediation and alternative dispute resolution on behalf of both insurance companies and individuals. He and his wife, Janet, have been married for 30 years and have two grown sons, Miles III and Adam. |
